Patrick Carnes lists eight ways trauma affects people over time:
- trauma reaction
- trauma arousal
- trauma blocking
- trauma splitting
- trauma abstinence
- trauma shame
- trauma repetition
- trauma bonds
Most traumatized people will display some combination of these rather than just one.
The information above comes from Patrick J. Carnes, The Betrayal Bond: Breaking Free of Exploitive Relationships (Deerfield Beach, Fla.: Health Communications Inc., 1997).
I can't tell you how much reading your blog has meant to me. I pretty recently found out that I have PTSD, though the symptoms have been present throughout my entire life.
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you. It means *everything* that I am not crazy or alone in this struggle.
I don't know if the blog is eating comments or if people have gotten second thoughts, but this is the second comment this week that did not post. If it is yours and you want it removed, post a comment saying so using the original account you signed in with. That comment will not post, so if you deleted it because of anonymity, no worries.. I will delete it from the moderation queue without it posting, along with this. that said, here is the comment.
